Marriage is a sacrament of the Church, one of total and lifelong love between a man and a woman. It is a sacrament because it, in some way, reflects and participates in the total and unfailing love of God for humankind. The Catholic Church teaches that marriage is a Christian vocation. A wedding is a celebration of this sacrament.
For a marriage to proceed at Sts Peter and Paul's, at least one of the parties must be a baptised Catholic and both parties be free to marry, i.e. both have never been validly married before. If one or both of you were involved in a previous religious or civil marriage, then please indicate this before you book.
Our church has a capacity of approximately 300 people.
If you are a regular worshipping member of the parish community, you will already know the parish priest. Please arrange to meet with him to arrange your wedding. The parish priest or one of the other Capuchins will be available to celebrate your wedding. Not all the details below will apply to you, so begin with a conversation with the parish priest.
If you are not a regular worshipping member of the parish community you are welcome to use the Church for your wedding. You will need to arrange for a Catholic priest or deacon to celebrate your wedding. He will need to have the necessary accreditation with the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne. You will need to advise the parish office of the celebrant's details at the time of the booking.
The letter of Permission and/or Acceptance from the priest or deacon confirming his availability for the chosen date and time needs to be presented in order to secure the booking.
Couples will need to give to the officiating priest or deacon at least six months notice of their wedding.
Weddings without the Nuptial Mass usually take about 30 minutes. Weddings with the Nuptial Mass will take about 60 minutes. Weddings may be booked for the following times:
To marry at Sts Peter and Paul’s, the fee to the church is $1500 (including $500 as a booking fee and donation towards the restoration and maintenance of the church building). The total balance is due one month prior to the wedding. The deposit is not refundable in the event of a cancellation.
The fee above that goes towards the church does not include the donation to the priest or deacon for celebrating your wedding. You will need to make your own arrangement with the priest or deacon.
PREPARATION FOR MARRIAGE
A marriage preparation program is an integral part of preparing for your wedding. The Archdiocese of Melbourne requires every preparing couple to complete a certified preparation course, before a Catholic priest or deacon may witness their marriage. The priest for your marriage celebration will discuss the details of the marriage preparation with you.

If you are a regular worshipping member of the parish community, please arrange to meet with the parish priest.
If you are not a regular worshipping member of the parish community please use the preliminary enquiry form on this page to enquire about available dates and times. If you have arranged the priest or deacon who will celebrate your wedding and are happy with the date and time, and ready to proceed, we will then send you some additional information, including access to an online booking form and payment details for a deposit. Once we have received the name of the accredited priest or deacon who will celebrate your wedding, and both the completed online booking form and deposit, your booking will be finalised.
